Residents of Dago area, in Tieng’ere, Kisumu West Constituency, have been left counting losses after heavy rains flooded their homes.

According to the residents, the new rains have left a trail of destruction in the little village.

A number of homes and rental houses were left half-sunken in mud and dirty water following the heavy rains.

Residents told Wananchi Reporting that the flood waters flowed from the nearby Korando hill, before pouring into their houses.

“Families have been affected after some of the houses collapsed, forcing them to abandon their homes,” said Kevin Odhiambo, a resident of the area.

Adding that: “A lot of property was destroyed in the homes, and in the rental houses. All the roads were flooded, making movement very difficult.”

Central Kisumu ward Member of County Assembly, Mr. Zack Okoyo visited the area following the floods.

According to the residents, the MCA promised to present their grievances to the Kisumu County assembly.

Meteorological services director David Gikungu recently said that weather drivers show most parts of Kenya will receive depressed rains in the March-May season.
