Kisumu man stabbed to death after row over phone

A 40-year-old man has been stabbed to death following a dispute reportedly linked to phone ownership in the Kibos area, Kisumu East Sub-County.

The incident, recorded under OB No. 19/15/2/2026 at 5:30 pm, was reported to Migosi Police Station by a Kibos resident after members of the public raised an alarm over a violent altercation outside a business premises.

Police officers from Migosi Police Station, accompanied by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Kisumu East, and led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), proceeded to the scene along the Kibos–Chiga Road, approximately four kilometres east of the station.

Preliminary investigations established that the deceased, identified as Raphael Omondi, 40, was involved in a fight with Tom Odhiambo Ouma, 30.

According to police, the altercation is believed to have originated from a disagreement over phone ownership at a local drinking joint before escalating onto the road.

“The assailant, who was armed with a kitchen knife, chased the deceased and got up with him where he was stabbed on the top left part of the chest,” read part of the report.

The victim collapsed and began bleeding profusely as members of the public responded to the commotion.

The suspect was reportedly subjected to mob justice before officers intervened.

“The suspect was immediately subjected to mob injustice at the scene of the crime, but the police team managed to rescue and re-arrest him,” read the report.

The injured man was rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The suspected murder weapon was allegedly taken by members of the public during the melee, and officers are following up to recover it.

The suspect remains in lawful custody at Migosi Police Station as investigations continue. Crime Scene Investigation personnel processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to the hospital mortuary for preservation and postmortem examination.
