Several properties were destroyed in Kisumu on Monday as police battled with Azimio protesters.

Sarova Imperial Hotel was among the properties damaged as shown in the photos below.

The demonstrations were called by Opposition chief Raila Odinga against the high cost of living and the presidential victory he claims ws stolen from him during the August 2022 elections which he lost to President William Ruto.

Anti riot police fired tear gas to disperse demonstrators gathered in various parts of the lakeside city of Kisumu as they attempted to march to the State Lodge which was heavily guarded by police.

Angered by the police action, the demonstrators hurled stones at businesses and other establishments leaving a trail of destruction.

Similar chaotic scenes were witnessed in the capital Nairobi where police used teargas and live ammunition to disperse rowdy youths as some, including two MPs and Senators, were arrested.
