Police in Kitale have launched an investigation following the mysterious killing of a 19-year-old youth, who was allegedly murdered for allowing a herd of cows to graze in a maize farm in Bidii village.

Villagers have expressed anger at the suspects, who fled the scene before the lifeless body of the herds boy, Enock Omoi, was found in the nearby Sabwani River.

Omoi had journeyed from Kisii County, seeking greener pastures in Trans Nzoia.

He found work as a herdsman in Bidii village, a role he embraced with hope. But a simple mistake—cows grazing on a few stalks of maize in the farm—led to a brutal end.

The community stands in shock, faces etched with sorrow and anger. Among them, Fridah Marumbo, a resident, struggles to hold back tears.

“Alienda tu kutoa ng’ombe ambao waliingia kula mahindi, alafu wakamkimbiza hadi baadaye akapatikana ameuliwa ndani ya maji,” said Fridah.

Enock’s relative, Chris Makori, grapples with the senselessness of the act.

“Kama ni ng’ombe ndio alifanya hivi si mngeita mwenye ng’ombe aeleze, ni haki kweli mtu kuuliwa sababu ya hiyo?” Chris posed.

The pain deepens knowing that witnesses remain silent, paralyzed by fear.

Douglas Makori, Enock’s brother, voices the community’s plea for justice, saying: “Wale wote wenye walikuwa ndani ya shamba wakiweka mbolea wanafaa kuhojiwa sababu wakinyamaza sasa what if ifanyikie mwengine tena.”

Fred Abuga, the Kwanza Police Commander, confirms that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a manhunt for the perpetrators. The community waits, hearts heavy, yearning for justice and the restoration of peace.
