A 42-year-old man has died in what police believe is a suspected case of death by suicide.
The police have identified the deceased as Samson Waweru. The body of the deceased was discovered inside his house in Kitengela, hanging from the roof.
According to neighbours, the deceased worked as a caretaker in the same building.
“All of us here knew him as a jovial man, who always got along with tenants and people around,” said one of the tenants.
The body was discovered inside his house after tenants failed to see him for two straight days.
“Some of the tenants went to his house to ask him to open the taps so they could get water, only to find his lifeless body hanging from the roof,” said a neighbour.
Reports indicated that the house of the deceased had been broken into four days earlier – and valuables stolen — an incident that left the caretake feeling distraught.
Some of the stolen items included a television set, home theatre sound system, gas cylinder and other items.
Police are now facing the difficult task of finding and locating his kith and kin as no one seemed to know his relatives – as he had been living alone.
Some of the residents claimed the crime scene may have been tampered with, with others claiming that he may have been killed elsewhere before his body was brought to the house, and made to look as if he had died by suicide.
Police are investigating the incident. Meanwhile the body was taken to Shalom hospital mortuary.
