Police in Makindu, Makueni County, are investigating an incident in which a Kenya Medical Training College student was stabbed to death by a fellow student at their shared residence in the town.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, November 2, 2025, the morning after three students returned from celebrating the end of their attachment at Makindu Subcounty Hospital.

Makindu Subcounty Hospital Medical Superintendent Emmanuel Laiposha said the victim had been stabbed in the neck.

He added that the attacker suffered knife injuries and was being treated at the hospital before being handed over to the police.

“Despite efforts by our trauma team, one of the students who is an attachee succumbed to her injuries secondary to stab wounds that she had sustained. The other one, fortunately, has been stabilised,” he said.

Neighbours and witnesses, including Enrico Osiro, a student at Makindu Medical Training College, described the scene.

“The three returned to the house with tension, and a fight broke out. One of them came out bleeding,” he said. Attempts to take the victim to the hospital were hindered as members of the public declined assistance.

Mary Wanjiku, a fellow student who had seen the three drinking at a local club, said she learned about the incident in the morning.

“I tried to reach out to the victim. Her phone was answered by another lady who told me to come to the hospital as something bad had happened,” she said. Wanjiku added that the victim was her close friend and very jovial.

The police questioned Sharon Muteti, the third student, a neighbour who witnessed the scuffle, and the boda boda rider who ferried the three to their residence. Investigations are ongoing.
