Kenya Rugby Union has announced the return of Africa’s premier sevens tournament – the Safari Sevens set to take place at the RFUEA grounds here in Nairobi from November 17 – 19.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, KRU Chairman Alexander Mutai said “We are proud to be back!”
According to Mutai, the tournament will bring together top African teams, along with international powerhouses for an unforgettable showdown.
“It will make rugby history. We have tapped key strategic partners that will re-establish the tournament back to its glory days while helping us keep alive our commitment to develop world class rugby in Kenya.”
The tournament comes on the backdrop of Kenya’s qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics and will be Shujaa’s second assignment since the appointment of the new technical bench led by head coach Kevin ‘Bling’ Wambua.
Shujaa assistant coach Louis Kisia had earlier said that they will be building on the Harare success where they qualified for the Paris games, in their second tournament.
“Our second is to prepare Shujaa and Morans for the Safari Sevens and ensure we give a good account of ourselves, this being the technical bench’s second challenge.”
KRU will hope more partners and sponsors come onboard as they prepare to host the premier competition that was last held here in 2019.
The Safari Sevens is a rugby sevens tournament held in Nairobi, Kenya and is usually open to African and international teams featuring professional, amateur, university and school sides.
