Vihiga Queens coach Boniface Nyamunyamuh has hailed their 3-0 victory over newcomers Mombasa Olympics as a significant boost in their quest to reclaim their former dominance in the Kenyan Women’s Premier League (FKF WPL). The four-time champions secured the win at Moi Stadium in Kisumu, with Diana Cherono scoring twice and Claudia Ukiru adding a third goal to complete the convincing triumph over Joseph Oyoo’s side.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, coach Nyamunyamuh praised his team for their strong performance and urged them to stay focused as they prepare for upcoming fixtures. “It was a motivating win for us, especially since Mombasa Olympics are a tough team. Playing against newcomers is always challenging because they are eager to make an impact, but we managed to secure all three points. Our goal is to avoid dropping points, win the league this season, and restore our respect,” Nyamunyamuh said.
He also commended his new signings, noting how well they have integrated into the squad and expressed optimism that they will strengthen the team’s quest for the title. “I’m impressed with how quickly my new recruits have blended with the rest of the team. After these first two matches, I’ve been able to assess their strengths and weaknesses, and I believe they will be a great asset to us,” he added.
The six new additions include midfielder Diana Ochieno, forward Susan Malda (from Madira Assassins), Ambriyah Omar (from Buruburu Academy), Eufreshier Ofai (from Bunyore Starlets), and Ugandan goalkeeper Ruth Aturo.
In other matches, defending champions Kenya Police Bullets were held to a goalless draw by Ulinzi Stars at the Kenya Police Sacco. Bungoma Queens secured a commanding 5-1 win over Kisumu All Starlets. Meanwhile, league newcomers Trinity Starlets continued their impressive form with a 2-0 victory over Wadadia, extending their lead at the top with nine points, two ahead of second-placed Police Bullets. Vihiga Queens, Zetech Sparks, and Olympics round out the top five with seven, four, and four points, respectively.
Sunday’s fixtures also saw KISPED claim their first win of the season by defeating Zetech Sparks 4-1 at Moi Stadium in Kisumu, while Kibera Soccer Women bounced back with a 3-0 victory over Bunyore Starlets at Mumboha Grounds.
