Kenyans will dig deeper into their pockets to visit the Nairobi National park, if a proposal by the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) is implemented.

The proposal will see park entry fees increased by more than triple, from January 2024 to December 2025.

In the proposal, Kenyan adults will pay Ksh.2,000 to visit the urban park during peak and low seasons. Children will pay Ksh.500 as entry fees, up from Ksh.215.

This is an increase from the Ksh.430 fee that adults from the East African Community (EAC) are currently paying to enter the parks.

On the other hand, foreign adults from the rest of Africa will pay Ksh. 2,867, while international tourists will be charged Ksh.14,335.

The Amboseli and Lake Nakuru National Parks have been categorised as Premium Parks, and adult visitors will pay a Ksh.1000 entry fee during the peak season and Ksh.800 during low season.

With Ksh.2250 and Ksh.650 respectively, EAC adults and children will get a Nairobi Package to visit the

Nairobi National Park, Nairobi Animal Orphanage and the Nairobi Safari Walk.

According to KWS, the proposed fees is as a result of a comprehensive analysis of the feedback gathered during forums conducted between January 30, and February 23, 2023.

The proposal also contains charges for camping, conference facilities and vehicle entering the parks.
