Real Madrid have released a statement addressing rumours that Florentino Perez is set to step down as club president.

The rumour went round social media in the last two days that Perez was “allegedly considering stepping down as president.”

However, the LaLiga giants in the statement, noted that “These rumours are categorically false and are due to certain interests that have nothing to do with reality.”

Perez has been president of Real Madrid since 2000.

During his time in charge, Los Blancos have won six Champions League and six LaLiga titles.

But he has also come under criticism, not just from supporters but also from officials, with ex-referee Iturralde Gonzalez speaking out earlier this year about a confrontation he faced with Perez.
