Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused the government of harassment and intimidation.

Taking to social media, Gachagua claimed that security agents in unmarked cars have been following him and were spotted around his Nairobi and Nyeri homes.

“They are parking at the entrance of my Nairobi residence, taking note of all my visitors, and they trail me whenever I leave the house, even all the way to my rural home in Nyeri,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua went on to assert that a saloon car that was parked outside his residence trailed him to Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA), Kerarapon.

“Last Sunday, the below saloon car that was parked at the entrance to my residence trailed me to PCEA Kerarapon Church, followed me to where I went for a late lunch and back to the house!” He added.

According to Gachagua, a quick search on the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) portal revealed that the registration numbers belonged to a lorry, not the saloon car that had been tailing him.

“This surveillance and intimidation of Kenyans was last witnessed during the era of the dreaded ‘Special Branch’ during the 24 years of Moi’s misrule!

In this era of extrajudicial killings, forced abductions and disappearances by state agents, I have thought it important to share with Kenyans the harassment and intimidation I am going through, and inform them to hold the state responsible if I am harmed by state agents,” he added.

He further urged the government to allow him to live his life in peace as a private citizen after his impeachment.

“I request the state to leave me alone! You hounded me out of office, and you should now allow me to enjoy my peace as a private citizen,” Gachagua said.

Earlier this month, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) refuted allegations that detectives in unmarked vehicles attempted to prevent Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from attending a church service in Nairobi.

In statement, the DCI dismissed the claims as unsubstantiated, calling them a misrepresentation of the agency’s actions and intentions.

The DCI emphasized that it operates strictly within the rule of law, with a commitment to respecting individuals’ personal freedoms and religious practices.
