The Employment and Labour Relations court has declared the ongoing lecturers’ strike unprotected and has called its officials to return to the negotiations table.

Lecturers under the University Academic Staff Union (UASU) downed their tools on Tuesday demanding the government to heed its demands as stipulated in the 2012-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

The court has therefore urged the dons to welcome negotiations with the government to allow room for developing a favourable Return-To-Work formula.

UASU and all interested parties have been granted 14 days to file a response on the matter.

The case will be mentioned on November 28, 2024.

Learning in all public universities has remained paralyzed for over 24 hours now, as lecturers vow not to return to lecture rooms until their demands are met, among them having their dues paid.

UASU Secretary General Constantine Wasonga has noted that they have called on the government to honour the negotiated return to work formula which had numerous benefits to cater for their welfare.
