Former Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal has filed an appeal with the High Court challenging his conviction. Granted bail while awaiting the appeal, Lenolkulal argues that the trial magistrate erred in law by convicting and sentencing him to 8 years in prison in the Ksh.83 million corruption case. He seeks to have the High Court overturn the lower court’s decision.
On August 29, 2024, Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzioki sentenced Lenolkulal to Ksh.85 million after finding him guilty of receiving public funds corruptly. Lenolkulal and ten co-accused were convicted on charges including abuse of office, conflict of interest, and unlawful acquisition of public property. His former proxy, Hesbon Ndathi, was also fined Ksh.83 million or sentenced to 8 years in prison.
On August 30, the Kibra High Court, under Judge Hesbon Jack Wachira Ndathi, granted bail to Lenolkulal pending the appeal hearing. The ruling, delivered by Justice Kavedza, classified the application as urgent.
