Lionel Richie is off the road and in recovery after a health scare forced him to seek urgent medical attention.
The 76-time Grammy Award-winning singer, 77, was admitted to hospital after doctors detected an irregular heartbeat.

He was subsequently diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, a condition caused by abnormal electrical activity in the heart that disrupts its regular rhythm.
To address the issue, Richie underwent a minimally invasive AFib ablation procedure, a technique that creates small areas of scar tissue to block faulty electrical signals and help the heart beat normally again.
His representative confirmed the surgery went smoothly, saying the procedure “went perfectly” and that Richie is “doing great” as he focuses on recovery.
The hospitalisation has dealt a blow to Richie’s ongoing Sing a Song All Night Long tour, which he shares with Earth, Wind and Fire.
Three shows have been pulled from the schedule as a result:
– 26 September 2026 at Chase Center in San Francisco – 30 September 2026 in Chicago, Illinois – 2 October 2026 in Columbus, Ohio
Despite the cancellations, his October 14 Las Vegas performance was still listed as going ahead as planned, giving fans in the city something to look forward to.
This latest hospitalisation is the third time in recent months that Richie’s health has interrupted his performing schedule.
In June 2026, he left a show early after experiencing dizziness on stage. Just two months later, in August, he spent three days in intensive care following a performance in St. Louis, where he underwent cardiac tests and received treatment for dehydration.
