Counties from Northern Kenya have the highest number of women aged between 21–49 years who have never had sexual intercourse.
This is according to the Kenya Demographic and Health Survey(KDHS) report by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics(KNBS).
Here are the top 10 counties where women have not had a sexual encounter and the percentage therein.
They are; Wajir(32.2), Garissa(31.7), Vihiga(26.1), Mandera(25.2), Kwale(24.8), Isiolo(24.8), Kilifi(22.4), Busia(22.1), Nyandarua(21.5), and Kitui(20.9).
On the other hand, Mandela County has the highest number of men who have never had sexual intercourse with 44.7 per cent.
The other counties in the top 10 list are Garissa(42.6), Wajir(36.3), Tana River(31.1), Kakamega(31.0), Busia(29.5), Siaya(27.5), Lamu(25.9), Nyandarua(24.5) and Kwale(23.7).
Meanwhile, the survey shows Narok County has the highest percentage of women who have had sexual intercourse in the last four weeks with 57.6 per cent.
The other counties featured on the survey are; Embu(57.5), Murang’a(56.6), Meru(55.7), Tharaka Nithi(55.4), Kirinyaga(54.9), Kericho(54.4), Kiambu(52.6), Nandi(51.9) and Nakuru(51.5).
On the other hand, West Pokot has the highest percentage of men who have had sexual intercourse in the past four weeks with 69.6 per cent.
The rest include; Narok at 68.4%, Tharaka Nithi at 61.3%, Kericho at 59.4%, Kirinyaga at 58.6%, Nandi at 56.1%, Migori at 55.2%, Kisumu at 54.5%, Nyamira at 54.5% and Elgeyo Marakwet County at 54.3%.
