Heavy police deployment was witnessed across Nairobi and other parts of the country on Wednesday morning as Kenyans prepared to mark the first anniversary of the deadly anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests.

Key access roads to Nairobi’s central business district were sealed off early in the morning and commuters were forced to alight at designated drop-off points.

Additionally, all roads leading to the State House were barricaded with razor wire, and Parliament buildings were fortified.

Wreaths are laid on the razor wire fence around Parliament buildings in Nairobi as protesters honour youths shot dead during last year’s anti-Finance Bill demos when crowds stormed the building.
