Police in Suba, Homa Bay County, are investigating a disturbing incident where a man reportedly buried his 5-month-old baby alone at his home in Nyaburu village. The incident occurred on Thursday night, with reports indicating that the middle-aged man buried his daughter by himself in his compound.

On Friday, neighbors who visited the man’s home discovered a shallow grave behind his house, raising alarm. They immediately alerted area assistant chief Winnie Boit, who, along with officers from Magunga police station, visited the scene.

According to Assistant Chief Boit, the suspect claimed that the baby fell ill on Thursday night and passed away the same night. He decided to bury her alone shortly afterward. The administrator also noted that the man had been living alone with his three children after his wife returned to her parents’ home for medical treatment following an epilepsy attack.

The suspect was arrested and taken to Magunga police station, where he is currently detained. The baby’s body is set to be exhumed on Monday, pending a court order, for a postmortem examination to determine the cause of death.
