A tragic incident occurred along the Kiamutugu-Gituba road in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County, where a lorry carrying five people plunged into Nyamindi river. The lorry, traveling from Kiamutugu to Gituba, veered off the road and ended up in the river with its occupants.

Rescue efforts were immediately launched, and four of the occupants were successfully rescued. They were rushed to Kiamutugu Health Centre for medical attention, with two of them in critical condition later transferred to Kerugoya Hospital.

However, one person remains missing, and authorities are intensifying efforts to locate them. Additionally, the operation to retrieve the lorry from the river is ongoing as the investigation into the cause of the accident continues.
