LSK steps in after death of Simon Warui at a Mombasa police station

The Law Society of Kenya President, Faith Odhiambo, has issued an update on the death of Simon Warui, who died under mysterious circumstances while in custody at Mombasa’s Central Police Station.

The LSK boss has announced that the Society has appointed an advocate to act on behalf of the family in monitoring the investigations and ensuring that the full truth and circumstances leading to Warui’s death are uncovered, and the persons involved are held to account.

Events that led to Warui’s death

According to the LSK President, Warui’s family revealed that the deceased went missing at around 10:00 am on a Sunday.

She further noted that the family reported him missing at Embakasi Police Station.

“We have received reports from the family that indicate he went missing at around 10:00 am on Sunday, and the same was reported at Embakasi Police Station,” Faith noted.

However, according to the LSK boss, the circumstances under which he was found dead in a police station in Mombasa remain unclear.

Faith has affirmed to the family that society is working closely with our civil society partners and the KNCHR to ensure this matter is investigated swiftly and conclusively.

The LSK president has also stated that the team will provide an update on any findings made and continue to pursue justice for Warui and his family.
