Luanda Villa head coach Gilbert Selebwa is confident that his team will put up a strong fight to secure promotion to the FKF Premier League next season. Selebwa, who previously helped AFC Leopards return to the top tier in 2009 and guided Shabana’s promotion in 2011, believes he can replicate that success with Villa.
“I believe that just as I helped AFC Leopards in 2009 and Shabana in 2011 consecutively to be promoted to the league (FKF Premier League), we can as well do that with Luanda Villa this year.
“I see light and breakthrough in this journey ahead,” Selebwa said.
Luanda Villa finished eighth in their debut season in the NSL last season and the technical bench is full of expectations for better things this term.
The seasoned tactician has now demanded character and belief from his boys as they embark on the ambitious journey this season.
“Evidently because we came eighth last season, I have that courage that together with the technical bench and the support from fans and the management, we can make it with these boys.
“Let us just fine-tune on our shortfalls last season and march forward without a blink,” he added.
However, the former Leopards head coach is aware that stiff competition awaits them this season and the promotion push won’t be a walk in the park.
Finishing in the top three is the bare minimum threshold for the Vihiga County-based team if they are to realize their dream.
“All the 20 teams are capable, of fighting for a promotion, because we have some teams that have that financial muscle and with experienced players signed.
I just have a feeling that with determination at Luanda Villa then we can definitely finish in the top three position- top two gets straight promotion while third placed is tasked with a play-off of two-legged fixtures- and that will be a plus for us.”
