Police in Kilifi County say they seized an SUV “packed to the brim” with marijuana at Malindi’s Gede area on Wednesday.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives said they flagged down a silver Toyota Vanguard, registration KCK 810C, for inspection, but the driver sped past in a fleeing attempt.

“A pursuit of the vehicle was launched, and hours later, the SUV was discovered abandoned in the Mayungu area; its plates had been hastily swapped to KCJ 752Z,” DCI said.

Police said they found the SUV “crammed to the roof with 12 bulging sacks of bhang, a consignment worth millions, destined for the streets.”

Both the vehicle and the narcotics were taken to Malindi Police Station while police are searching for the driver.
