Nairobi County Government has Monday disbanded the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital management board.
The overhaul comes days after a public uproar was witnessed when a woman was captured in a video giving birth on the hospital corridors at the facility on Saturday.
It is alleged that the woman was forced to deliver in the corridors after being denied access to the maternity ward by the watchman.
Announcing the changes, the County Chief Executive Member on Health Anastasia Nyalita said that the changes take effect immediately.
Dorcas Kemunto in the changes is the new Board Chairperson while Dr Bernard Gituma takes over as the Board Secretary.
Members of the new board include Hon. Christopher Githinji (Mtumishi), MCA, Jennifer Mumbua Mutunga, Susan Wanjiru Kamau, Yvonne Peris Alera Makokha, Ronald Ngala Oniango and Fridah Wambui NDuati.
In addition to taking over as Board Secretary, Dr Gituma will also double up as the Medical Superintendent.
Dr Emma Mutio, the current Medical Superintendent has been posted to Pumwani Hospital as a specialist.
The process of recruitment of a substantive CEO for Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital as well as all our other level 5 facilities is ongoing and at an advanced stage.
“We are grateful to the previous board for the services they have rendered to the people of Nairobi for the time they have served,” CEC Nyalita concluded.
