The suspect, Evans Abuti, is reported to have killed his wife in Nakuru County before fleeing the scene.
His arrest comes amid a wave of killings reported in Nairobi, Nakuru, and Nyeri counties, where a university student is now in custody for allegedly killing a 20-year-old Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student.
Police reports reveal a chilling scene in which Abuti allegedly murdered his wife, Jackline Awuor, 30, before dismembering her body and concealing the remains in a quarry in Bahati Maili. He then allegedly fled more than 240 km away.
“We were able to trace the suspect to Nvakholo, Kakamega. We embarked on an operation to recover the head and the murder weapon used,” stated Charity Karimi, OCPD Bahati North.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned on Wednesday in connection with the murder.
In Karatina, police have secured a custodial order for Vincent Bett as part of investigations into the death of a KMTC Nyeri campus student.
Bett is the prime suspect in the murder of Sheila Chebet, whose body was found abandoned on a farm in the Karatina area. CCTV footage reportedly shows Chebet with Bett shortly before her body was discovered.
“When I arrived, I saw the girl lying here, fully clothed. She had white socks, was muddy, and her trouser was tied around her neck with a belt,” said Stanley Nganyi, a witness.
“We understand they spent quite some time together, and that is why we are holding him as the key suspect. Investigation is underway so we can know exactly what transpired,” stated Deborah Mwarania, DCC.
In Nairobi, four young suspects linked to a notorious Eastleigh criminal gang appeared in court on Tuesday, facing murder charges.
The prosecution alleges the four attacked a peer in Eastleigh Section 3, fatally stabbing him in broad daylight. Authorities say the suspects are part of a dangerous syndicate that has been terrorising residents in the estate.
