Police in Kasarani, Nairobi County, are currently holding a man found in possession of counterfeit Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) stamps and uncustomed alcoholic drinks.

“After receiving actionable intelligence, the team raided an unmarked godown within Kasarani’s Vickens 30 Industrial park area where following a detailed search, the officers managed to recover an assortment of different types of spirits, 250ltrs drums of ethanol, assorted bottle lids and assorted counterfeit KRA stamps.,” the DCI said in a statement.

Johanes Odhiambo was arrested following a joint sting operation led by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives and KRA officials.

“Also recovered were 3 empty tanks of 3000ltrs, one 5000ltrs tank full of blended alcohol, and a 10,000ltrs tank containing 3000ltrs of blended alcoholic drink. Assorted empty alcohol bottles and a fully fledged manufacturing and bottling plant also discovered at the godown.”

The DCI’s Economic and Commercial Crimes Unit has since processed the scene while Odhiambo is helping police trace the whereabouts of ten of his accomplices who managed to evade police during the raid.

The arrest comes on the back of a recent directive by President William Ruto who ordered law enforcement agencies to rein in unscrupulous businessmen selling counterfeit products to unsuspecting Kenyans in a bid to evade paying taxes.
