Police in Masii are holding a 57-year-old man who brutally attacked his 84-year-old mother with a machete, following a land dispute in Yikiatine village in Masii location.

Police reports indicate, Peter Mwikya Kioko, ambushed his mother, Esther Wanza Kioko, at her home and attacked her with the machete at around 2 pm.

According to the Sub-county Police Commander, Ronald Kirui, Wanza sustained deep cuts on her head and hands before villagers came to her rescue.

The irate villagers cornered the suspect and put him in the boot of his brother’s car, which was being used to rush the injured mother to the hospital, but he eventually managed to escape.

His freedom was short-lived as he was later arrested by police.

Kirui said the suspect will remain in custody pending investigations.

The mother is recuperating at Machakos Level Five Hospital.

The Sub-county Police Commander urged residents to desist from using violence, but instead seek amicable ways to settle disputes.
