A man was left with serious injuries on Sunday after being beaten by residents who suspected him of being a livestock thief in the Drys area of Ainapkoi, Uasin Gishu County.

Residents set ablaze the suspect’s car, a Toyota Probox, which had been parked by the roadside, and then beat him up on suspicion that he is part of a gang that has been stealing their goats.

Two others who were with him were rescued by police, while the car burned to ashes.

Confirming the incident, Ainapkoi Sub-County Police Commander Stephen Kimunya said the injured man is receiving treatment at Burnt Forest Sub-County Hospital, while the two others are in police custody to assist with investigations.

Kimunya urged residents not to take the law into their own hands but to report anyone they suspect to the police for appropriate legal action to be taken.
