Man buried alive during sand harvesting activity in Bomet

A miner harvesting sand in between two huge rocks at Kyokong quarry in Bomet County died on the spot after debris from loose rocks buried him alive, suffocating him to death.

According to Stanley Kosgei a Bomet disaster unit officer, the deceased succumbed due to severe head chest injuries.

Two other miners who were holed up in an adjacent cave escaped unhurt and pleaded for help where local residents mobilized themselves to find the miner trapped in the debris.

Police officers attached to Bomet Central police station visited the scene on Wednesday and moved the body to Longisa County Referral hospital mortuary.

Following the incident, county officer in charge of devolution Erick cheruiyot appealed to miners to keep off the site till advised by the relevant department.

In the recent past, five people have lost their lives in a similar way.
