Residents of a village in Embu County are in shock after a 63-year-old man drowned in a water-filled quarry. The incident occurred in Kathambaiconi village, located in Kagaari South, Runyenjes Constituency.

Kwa Njagi area Senior Chief Daniel Ndwiga stated that rescue efforts had to be temporarily halted due to a lack of necessary equipment.

“We were forced to abandon the operation on Tuesday, but we will resume on Wednesday morning,” Ndwiga said.

He also urged residents to be cautious around water-filled pits, which pose significant dangers. This incident has intensified pressure on the county government to enforce regulations requiring excavators to refill these hazardous pits.

“Most of the companies operating in the area leave the pits open after completing their extraction work. We hope that the regulations, once in place, will help prevent such tragedies.
