Police in Bomet are holding a 25-year-old man after he allegedly hacked to death his neighbor on suspicion that he stole his phone and Ksh.1,800.
According to Sugurmega location Chief Richard Byegon, the suspect, Amos Cheruiyot, quietly crept into the house where the 36-year-old was being hosted by a friend on Monday night. He then hacked him to death using a Panga.
Byegon, said the suspect and the deceased were known to be friends, and had been moving around together and visiting each other’s families before the unfortunate incident.
Police said the deceased succumbed to deep cuts in the head, hands and both legs while being rushed to Longisa County Referral Hospital where the body has since been preserved.
Members of the public arrested the suspect and frog matched him to the police station.
Chepalungu sub-county police commander Phanton Analo said the killer weapon had been found and the scene processed.
