A man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for allegedly defiling his step-daughter aged 13 years.

In a statement released on Monday, November 6, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) emphasized the gravity of the case, taking into account the victim’s age and the fact that the accused was the stepfather to the young girl.

“Prosecution Counsel, Calvin Kirui today secured a conviction in Muranga after the Muranga Law convicted a man to 20 years imprisonment for the offence of Defilement Contrary to Section 8(1) as read with Section 8(3) of the Sexual Offences Act,” the statement outlined.

According to Section 8(1) of the Sexual Offences Act, defilement is a severe crime involving the penetration of a child.

The Act further mandates that a person who commits defilement with a child aged eleven years or less shall face a life sentence upon conviction.

For children between the ages of twelve and fifteen, a conviction carries a minimum sentence of not less than twenty years.
