Veteran journalist and founder of Africa Uncensored John Allan Namu has shut down tweeps circulating a photo of a colleague who was arrested in March during the Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition protests.

According to Namu, the photo, showing the journalist disembarking from a police vehicle, may pose a danger to the Africa Uncensored journalist who at the moment is on the ground doing his job.

He noted that some may misinterpret the photo thinking it was taken during the ongoing anti-government protests.

“On a serious note, you need to retract this. Clint is currently in the field and this may put him in danger. Again, this was taken when Clint and Calvin were apprehended DURING THE LAST ROUND OF MAANDAMANO. It wasn’t taken today or yesterday,” Namu wrote.

Namu also shared a post from a blog that claimed that the journalist was among officers in civilian clothes impersonating journalists.

On July 19, Calvin was reportedly apprehended by men in civilian clothes driving a Subaru and was taken to Kayole police station.

According to Namu, Calvin tried to explain to the men who seemed to be police officers that he was a journalist but shoved him into the vehicle nonetheless.

The police later released the journalist unconditionally.
