Police in Bomet County have arrested a 30-year-old man who allegedly murdered his father and injured his mother after he was denied money to buy a motorcycle.
The suspect, Victor Langat, is said to have hit his mother and struck his 55-year-old father to death using a piece of wood after the latter tried to rescue the mother at their home in Cheptagum in Sotik sub-county.
According to Baleek sub-location Assistant Chief Wesley Langat, the suspect had demanded a share of money attained from the sale of a piece of land by his parents in order to use it to purchase a motorbike for his own use.
After the parents turned down his demand, Langat got agitated, picked a piece of wood and hit his mother.
She managed to maneuver her way out while writhing in pain and when his father tried to intervene, he was struck with the same wood and died on the spot.
Neighbours who heard the commotion rushed to the scene and restrained the perpetrator before handing him over to the police.
He is currently held at Sotik Police Station.
The suspect, according to the chief, is a drug addict and has several criminal cases.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has since been moved to Kapkatet Hospital mortuary.
