As the saying goes “while you wait for your turn, learn to clap for others”; for one Mwaniki Muchanga, hope and persistence has rewarded him heavily after seeing the story of Hannah Watiri on Citizen TV that pushed him to proceed with Kaende Jackpot on Shabiki.com.

After six attempts, he managed to correctly predict 11 out of 13 matches that made him Ksh.500,000 richer.

A joyous Mwaniki couldn’t hold his contagious laughter as he narrated the events that transpired when he received the good news.

“Nilisikia kufurahi mpaka nikakaa chini, nilikuwa napanda ‘thaara’ (napier grass) nikakaa chini kwanza nikashindwa na kupanda. Mpaka mwenyewe akaniambia, “eee mũndu ndũũkere” (you guy, wake up and continue working) nikamwambia nimeshinda pesa, lakini leo tutafanya kazi lakini kesho nitaondoka,” recalled the 65-year-old.

Mwaniki is a casual labourer who tills land for farmers in Karatina village, Lari constituency in Kiambu County, to fend for himself and his wife.

The husband and father of four, all of whom are grown, plans to renovate his house, buy cattle and set up a business with what will be left of his winnings.

“Kwanza nitatengeneza nyumba ile nakaa, ninunulie bibi kang’ombe, ikibaki tutatafuta kabiashara tutafanya ili tuache kuenda kibarua,” he continued.

To Mwaniki, this is a golden opportunity for early retirement from the menial job and embrace a new chapter in his life as he urges punters to keep on playing the Kaende Jackpot.

Kaende Jackpot guarantees a weekly winner as the person with the highest winning prediction is automatically declared the winner of the Ksh.500,000 cash prize.
