A 20-year-old man from Shambani Village in Burat, Isiolo North has been swept away by river Isiolo.

The man was swept away alongside a motorbike he was riding on.

According to Isiolo North OCPD William Kiambi, the boda boda had three occupants. They had earlier received a warning not to cross over the flooded road, but they refused to listen.

The boda boda rider and one other passenger were saved from the raging floods following heavy rains in the region that began pouring on Wednesday night.

A search for the man’s body and the motorbike is ongoing.

Residents have decried the government’s reluctance to construct a bridge in the area, which is prone to floods.
Earlier, a lorry with 8 occupants on board was swept by floods in an attempt to cross Larata River in Samburu County.
A helicopter arrived at the scene to save the trapped occupants of the lorry.
