Nicholas Mwiti, a man charged with manslaughter after killing another on November 30, 2022, has been jailed for 10 years.

Before Chuka High Court Judge Justice Lucy Gitari, Mwiti pleaded guilty to hacking Geoffrey Muriungi after a conflict.

According to the accused, Muriungi had taken his fish forcefully and declined to pay for it.

Mwiti argued that the deceased, who was drunk, turned away locals who were volunteering to help him pay Ksh.30 for the fish.

A conflict would then rise between the two and Mwiti quickly went for a panga that he used to hack Muriungi, who succumbed shortly.

The deceased’s family has now expressed dissatisfaction with the court ruling, which they said was too lenient.

Muriungi’s mother Margret Kaindu said she will be seeking compensation for his late son, who left behind young kids that are now giving her hard time to raise.
