Eldoret High Court has been told that the manager of Agnes Tirop, the two-time World 10,000 metre bronze medalist feared for her life months before he murder.

Tirop’s coach Joseph Cheromei told the court in Eldoret that the Italian athletics manager of the deceased, Giani Demadona raised concern about her safety in connection to an extra-marital affair.

Cheromei said the Italian manager informed him of the secret relationship with a man only identified as Mr.Sawe.

In his testimony, Cheromei said that back in June 2021, the Italian manager asked him to bring Agnes Tirop at the training camp ahead of two major races she was to take part in Valencia, Spain and Tokyo, Japan.

Months later, her husband Ibrahim Rotich is said to have killed Tirop on October 13, 2021 at their rural estate house on the outskirt of Iten town in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

Rotich who has so far pleaded not guilty to the murder charge is out on a bond of Kshs. 400,000.

The hearing of the case will be heard on November 5, 2024 where three witnesses are expected to testify.
