A police officer was among four people killed in a suspected terrorist attack in Mandera on Monday morning, reports say.

Eleven other people sustained serious injuries after an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded at the Mama Samaki Hotel in Mandera at around 11am.

According to Mandera Police Commander Samwel Mutunga who confirmed the incident, two of those injured are said to be in critical condition, and receiving treatment at the Mandera County Referral Hospital.

The police boss said detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are following crucial leads to arrest the perpetrators.
