Police officers at Chesoi station, Elgeyo Marakwet have launched a manhunt for suspects who attacked and killed a police officer after rescuing six girls who had undergone Female Genital Mutilation.

According to the police, unknown people attacked the officer who had rescued the girls after they were mutilated and pelted him with stones and blunt weapons until he died and then burned his body and escaped with a G3 rifle and 40 rounds of ammunition

The residents are said to have been agitated by the officers who had taken the girls to their station in Chesoi.

Officers are determined to nab the suspects who are still at large.

This comes amid many reported FGM cases in the area, a move that has forced many girls to leave their homes fearing for their safety.
