On Thursday, Eliud Lagat and Gilbert Masengeli were sworn in as the substantive Deputy Inspectors General (DIG) for the Kenya Police Service and the Administration Police Service, respectively. The brief ceremony took place at the Supreme Court and was presided over by Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya, Martha Koome.

Following the swearing-in, Inspector General Douglas Kanja Kirocho handed over the NPS Command to Masengeli. DIG Masengeli will now also serve as the Acting Inspector General of the National Police Service. This transition follows Kanja’s nomination as the Inspector General of the NPS on June 25, 2024, by President William Ruto.

The role of DIG-KPS involves commanding, controlling, and administering the Kenya Police Service under the direction of the Inspector General (IG). The DIG-APS is responsible for leading the Administration Police Service and operates under the directions and control of the IG.
