The Matatu Owners Association (MOA) has said stakeholders will protect themselves during anti-government protests, just a day after a public service vehicle was set ablaze on Ngong Road.
In press conference on Wednesday, MOA chairman Simon Kimutai claimed businesses would collapse unless they are protected by their owners.
“Businesses are going to collapse if we just sit there and watch. Those who are afraid can stay at home , those who are brave let’s come out and protect businesses,” Mutai told the media.
At the same time, the association poured cold water on claims that the viral video of Matatu seen smouldering on Ngong road had been stage-managed.
According to Mutai, the vehicle belonged to the association and was burnt down by goons on Tuesday.
The association claims that during the attack on the bus, several people were assaulted and the driver robbed.
“We are saddened by the claims that the burning of the bus was stage managed. The bus was torched, people were assaulted and the driver was robbed,” Mr. Mutai added.
Other than the bus, a lorry transporting goods to Uganda was torched by unknown persons along the Southern bypass on Tuesday.
