A man reportedly arrested while allegedly vandalizing a metallic post inside Mathare police station in Nairobi has been charged with sabotage contrary to section 343 of the Penal Code.

Edward Makhavero, 25, is accused of willfully and unlawfully vandalizing a football field stand inside the police station while intending to endanger or knowing it would endanger the life of the community on October 21, 2023.

The suspect was arrested by a police officer who found him allegedly cutting the pole at around 3am.

He was allegedly using a hacksaw to cut the metallic post.

The officer arrested him and escorted him into the station’s cells where he was held pending investigations.

The hacksaw was recovered and is listed as among the exhibits in the case alongside a piece of metal believed to have been vandalized from equipment inside the police station.

The arresting officer, the star witness in the case, was leaving the station at around 3:30am for physical exercise when he allegedly found the accused person in the act.

Makhavero was challenged to stop and pretended to be sleeping beside the post with a partly cut piece of metal hanging from the post.

He was released on a cash bail of Sh100, 000.

The case will be mentioned on January 29, 2024, before the hearing starts on March 26, 2024.
