Mbadi boasts of stabilizing economy after finding a cash-strapped Treasury

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has lauded President William Ruto’s administration for what he termed as successful steps in stabilizing the economy as well as developing all regions in the country.

Mbadi, who was speaking in Migori on Sunday, argued that his debut at the Treasury saw the country recover from a cash crisis that had crippled recurrent expenditures and debt payments.

“Last year, when I was appointed to Treasury…. Sometimes we could sit with my PS and the Director General of accounting services, and we were not sure we could pay salaries. We could not tell Kenyans that we are finding it hard to pay salaries, we were not sure whether we would pay loans. That is why you saw what happened to the shilling last year … because we were not clear we would pay loans,” said Mbadi.

The CS argued that Kenyans have seen changes in the economy, urging people critiquing the government to be honest with themselves.

“Yet this economy has been run by other people previously. Then you are saying we have done nothing? We have even de-risked the loan that was to be paid in 2027,” added Mbadi.

The CS said the support of the Head of State enabled the Treasury to turn around the economy to this point where it’s now stable.

He further counted the upgrade of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital from level five to level six hospital as an achievement for Ruto administration. He said the hospital’s budget increment from Ksh.500M to Ksh.3B is just a few things that President Ruto’s administration has done for the people of the Nyanza region.

While appealing to the Luo community to support Ruto, Mbadi said Migori County would benefit from projects worth Ksh.2.3B.
