The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) now says Grace Nduta Wairimu, a Member of County Assembly for Kanyenya-ini Ward in Murang’a County, spent the entire night of May 25, 2025 with Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi at a bar in Gatundu South when the lawmaker had claimed that he had been abducted.
The DCI, in a statement to newsrooms on Thursday evening, stated that Nduta was arrested on Wednesday in connection with what they describe as a stage-managed abduction of MP Koimburi.
Detectives said that while Nduta had claimed to be in Kangema attending church services and political rallies on the day in question, surveillance and evidence placed her instead at Ellis Bar and Restaurant in Kiganjo, Gatundu South—in the company of the very man who was supposedly missing.
“The attention of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations has been drawn to reports circulating on social media on alleged abduction of Grace Nduta Wairimu. We wish to confirm that Grace Nduta Wairimu… was arrested today May 29, 2025 as part of an ongoing investigation on the stage-managed abduction of Hon. George Koimburi,” the statement reads in part.
“It has been confirmed that, despite her claims of being in Kangema and attending church services and political rallies on May 25, 2025, evidence clearly shows that she was at the Ellis Bar and Restaurant in Kiganjo, Gatundu South, with Hon. George Koimburi the entire night.”
Nduta’s driver, who was last seen with the MCA, said she received a call from an unidentified man to meet at a restaurant in Kandara before hell broke loose.
“Me nilikuja nikamdrop lakini kwa hiyo harakati ya kutoka kama 100 metres kuna gari nilipita na nikaona hiyo gari imeteremsha vioo. Saa hiyo nikapigia mheshimiwa nikamwambia kuna gari nimeona hapo na imeteremsha kioo na wakaniangalia sana. Nikamwambia ajiangalie … Kukaa nikampigia simu lakini simu haiingii,” Joseph Kamau, Nduta’s driver stated.
He drove back only to confirm his worst fears. The hotel management confirmed that her boss had been taken away by three men he had earlier spotted and driven out of the premises in a huff.
“Kulikuwa na mmoja mwenye alikuwa amempigia simu wakutane kwa hiyo hoteli. I think huyo jamaa ndiye aliita hao wengine watatu hivi,” the driver added.
The arrest of the MCA brings the number to four suspects in police custody over the matter.
Police have moved to court seeking 15 days to detain the three suspects to allow them to conclude investigations.
