In a courtroom drama at Makadara Law Courts, Paul Ondinyo Odhiambo, a 33-year-old mechanic, pleaded guilty to causing a disturbance in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace.

This admission came after he verbally abused police officers at Kariobangi police station, branding them “stupid dogs.”

The incident unfolded on December 15 when Odhiambo, reportedly intoxicated, attracted the attention of patrolling police officers in the Kariobangi area. He was apprehended for disorderly conduct, disturbing members of the public.

Upon reaching the police station, Odhiambo further escalated the situation by kicking the metal door of the cells and directing abusive language towards the officers.

The charges against him include threatening to cause a breach of the peace, as per Section 95 (1) (b) of the Penal Code.

During the arraignment before Senior Principal Magistrate Mary Njagi, Odhiambo admitted to his actions, including the insults hurled at the officers.

He was remanded in custody at Nairobi Area Remand in Industrial Area until December 22, when the prosecution is scheduled to present the case for conviction and sentencing.

The three police officers, who were the target of Odhiambo’s insults, were listed as witnesses in the case.

However, their testimony may not be required as the accused has already pleaded guilty to the charges.

This incident comes on the heels of a similar case three months ago when 32-year-old Ann Kerubo faced charges for insulting police officers at Kayole Police Station.

Kerubo, arrested for being drunk and disorderly, allegedly verbally abused officers while in custody. She was released on a cash bail of Sh15,000 pending the hearing of her case on April 26, 2024.
