In an era where digital platforms are reshaping how communities engage, an Assistant Chief in Kipcherere, Baringo County has taken the initiative to embrace technology in a way that not only entertains but also educates.

Kipcherere Sub-Location Assistant Chief Felix Chesire has earned the nickname “TikTok Chief” for his innovative use of the popular platform to address social vices like illicit brews and drug addiction.

Chesire’s comical posts on his TikTok handle Soi Comedy has earned him a following of 55,000 people on the social platform.

The assistant chief, alongside two youths, Vincent Chesang and Caleb Kiplagat, is using the platform to raise awareness on substance abuse through comedy.

“We are educating the youth about drugs and they are changing. We are also transforming the lives of women in our area,” said Chesire.

“Our chief had difficulties with us; for a long time, we were not listening. He spoke to us and showed us the consequences… when we changed, we realized he had no bad intentions towards us,” Chesang added.

Their skits have resonated with a large audience, especially the Gen Z generation, which often doesn’t attend traditional barazas organized by the chief.

“At that time when we started, there were challenges. The chief went to the youth and left the elders. During the council, someone said, ‘Chief, about the women, you said…’ and I realized they are following up,” said Chesire.

“He has educated the women, and they have formed groups. They can now borrow loans,” Alice Boiwo, a resident, added.
