The Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has called off the Meru doctors’ strike, which was scheduled to kick off tomorrow, March 6.

Announcing on Wednesday evening, Union Secretary General Davji Attelah says that the County Govt has agreed to meet the four issues raised by the medics.

Among the issues are promotion of doctors, employment of more doctors, study leave and absorption of medics employed on contracts.

SG Atellah noted that the county has agreed to promote all doctors due for promotion in March.

“We have 24 doctors being promoted to job group N and R. The remaining 65 will get their promotion letters by April 1, 2026,” he said.

Likewise, 50% of doctors who have applied for study leave will be released granted their leave and 25 doctors will be employed by May, 2026.

Another 25 doctors on contract will have their terms reviewed to permanent and pensionable by September.

The two parties signed an MoU as Meru DG Linda Gakii Kiome promised that the county government will honour its word.
