A 31-year-old woman was allegedly killed in the early hours of the morning near her rental home in Muthathia, Buuri West, Meru County, in what police are treating as a suspected homicide.
Charity Kinya had reportedly woken up before dawn and was making her way to the outdoor toilets within her compound when she was allegedly set upon by an unidentified attacker.
How Kinya Was Allegedly Killed
Her body was discovered near the compound gate at around 5 am, bearing deep wounds to her head and the right side of her hip.
Investigators believe she was struck with a sharp-edged object, possibly a panga or sword, based on the nature of the injuries observed at the scene.
According to Nyeri Daily Newspaper, Kinya had only been living at the rental property for approximately one month at the time of her death.
A black back cover belonging to what is believed to be a button phone was found near where her body lay. Detectives collected it as potential evidence to aid the investigation.
What Investigators Are Pursuing
Police have not yet made any arrests, but they are actively working to identify the suspect.
Among the lines of enquiry being pursued is a possible love triangle, which investigators are examining as a potential motive behind the attack.
Kinya’s remains were transported to Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted to establish the precise cause of death.
Detectives are continuing their efforts to piece together the circumstances of her final moments.
