A man named James is grieving after losing five of his closest relatives in the Kikopey road crash, a collision that has left him without the small family unit he once called his own.
The victims include his wife, his daughter, his brother-in-law, and that man’s wife and daughter.
“Now I am left alone,” James said, noting that his entire immediate family consisted of just his wife and daughter.
What Police Said About the Kikopey Crash
According to investigators, the crash took place at around 11pm in the Kamugunda area. A PSV bus travelling from Gilgil towards Nakuru allegedly left its lane and crossed into the path of an oncoming Toyota IST, triggering the fatal collision.
James said police informed him that the family car had been travelling in the climbing lane when the bus moved into the same lane.
He did not hold back his anguish over what he described as preventable deaths. “Some drivers are dangerous in their manoeuvres,” he said, adding that his family had every reason to live and that reckless driving had robbed them of that chance. “This is very bad,” he said.
Four of the five family members who perished were inside the Toyota IST at the time of the crash, among them two adult women and two juveniles, all of whom died at the scene. The driver of the Toyota IST survived the impact but was in a critical condition and was rushed to St. Joseph Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Bodies Taken to PNN Funeral Home
Emergency responders retrieved the bodies from the scene and transported them to PNN Funeral Home, where they are being held for preservation ahead of formal identification and postmortem examinations.
Both the Toyota IST and the PSV bus were towed to a police station yard and placed under detention to allow investigators to inspect the vehicles as they work to establish the full circumstances of the crash.
