Heavy rains are expected to continue this week in most parts of the country.

The weatherman in a seven-day weather forecast valid from 18 to 24 April 2023, warns of isolated storms that may occur over some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Coast, and North-eastern Kenya.

Strong winds of over 25 knots (12.5 m/s) are expected in parts of Turkana and Marsabit counties and significant wave heights over the Kenyan Indian Ocean Coastal waters.

Slight to moderate sea conditions are expected with significant wave height (0.9-1.5m) in Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi and Lamu.

“Small boats and crafts are advised to venture into deep sea with caution, especially in the afternoon” Kenya Meteorological Department cautions in a separate advisory.

Average daytime (maximum) temperatures are likely to be high (more than 30oC) in Coast, North-Eastern, and North-Western Kenya, while parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley will record low night-time (minimum) temperatures of less than 10oC.

The Director of Meteorological Services noted that there was increased rainfall across the country over except for North Rift Valley and North-Western Kenya.

“Comparing the 3 to 9 April 2023 and the 10 to 16 April 2023 periods, it is noted that there was an increase in rainfall amounts over much of the country with the exception of the North Rift Valley and North-western Kenya” said MET.

The highest seven-day rainfall total (169.2mm) was recorded at Hadado Rainfall Station in Wajir.
