Migori County Gov’t To Settle Medical, Funeral Expenses For Lorry Accident Victims

The Migori County government will foot the medical bills for the seven people who were injured and the funeral expenses of the eight people who died in an accident on Saturday morning.

This comes after a lorry that was transporting rice to the border town of Isebania developed brake failure and crashed in Migori town.

Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko, in a subsequent press briefing, said a team will be set up to ensure that the injured victims get all the necessary treatment and then give a report on the costs so that the county government can settle the bill.

Dr. Ayacko said the team will also get the mortuary charges and other funeral expenses for those who lost their lives in the crash to enable his administration facilitate payment.

The Governor further said the county government is also going to offer psychosocial support to the affected families.

“We’re still in a state of shock. Through the department of health and the department of environment and disaster management, we will form a team that will help to talk to these families,” he said.

“On our part, we will continue supporting those who are recovering by way of offering treatment and trying to meet some of the medical charges that they have; we’ll work out what it costs and see how to intervene. We’ll also meet the mortuary and modest funeral expenses for those we have lost.”

Governor Ayacko also stated that his government is going to work close with the police to establish the cause of the accident and also put in place measurers to avert similar ones in future.

Migori County Police Commander Mark Wanjala confirmed that eight people died and seven people were injured in the accident that occurred after a tipper truck developed a break failure in Migori town and rammed other road users.
